Other Places Visited

These are some of the places we have visited in addition to national parks and monuments. If you need to know more about any of these places, e-mail me I will try to provide you with my experiences and opinions.

Abitibi Paper Mill,  Fort Frances, ON. This is a small paper mill just across the Canadian border from International Falls, MN. Our visit was in August 2001.

Albuquerque  Kodak Balloon Fiesta  An annual, early October event that extends for over a week.  Over 800 hot air balloons, with many "Special Shapes" are beautiful to watch, and will demand you use more film to capture the memories than you thought possible. Our visit was in October 1998.

Anchorage to Fairbanks. The start of the land portion of our Princess Tour.

Anchorage to Vancouver Cruise.  A wet and rough cruise.

Burney Falls  A very beautiful waterfall in a California State Park. Visited in September 2001.

Churchhill, MB. This is where the polar bears gather every October and November.

Columbia River Gorge. Waterfalls, Dams, and more. Visited in September 2001.

Dalton Highway, AK  Traveled first in 1997 as far North as the Artic Circle, we traveled again in  August 2001 all the way to Prudhoe Bay. We drove in 1997, but this time we were on a tour bus. The bus was better.

EBR-1 National Historic Landmark

Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay. The best part of our Princess Tour.

Fort Union Trading Post. National Historic Site. Located at the border between Montana and North Dakota, just a short distance from the confluence of the Missouri and Yellowstone rivers is a trading post that was active in the mid 1800's. Our visit was in August 2001.

Grant-Koors Ranch Historic Site

Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge  Visited by many water birds and bird photographers. On Florida's Sanibel Island near Fort Myers. We visited in January 2002.

Grand Coolly Dam

Hearst Castle

Hoover Dam Tours were close for our visit in September 2001, but the outside is impressive.

Las Vegas  We visited Las Vegas to see the sights, not to gamble. There is a lot to see. September 2001.

London Bridge I was not impressed, but the bridge is rather beautiful and old. September 2001.

The Loneliest Road in America  US Highway 50 in Nevada. We drove it in September 2001.

McDonald Observatory

Musk Ox Farm

Niagara Falls

Oregon Aquarium

Oregon Scenic Areas Scenic places to visit in Oregon away from the Columbia River Gorge. We visited these places in September 2001.

Pebble Beach 17 mile drive

Petersen Rock Garden, OR. My wife says Petersen had too much time on his hands for a farmer. A lot of work required to produce this place of beauty. We visited in September 2001.

Princess Line Cruise. Included are visits to Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan. August and September 2001.

Prudhoe Bay, AK  The end point of the Dalton Highway trip, August 2001.

Sea Lion Caves

Vancouver, BC Our visit was mainly to Stanley Park, and it was not a good visit because of the crowd. August 2001.

Vancouver Island. Home to Butchart Gardens, and the beautiful city of Victoria, BC.

Very Large Array In New Mexico is a large complex of radio telescopes. Interesting to me. September 2001.

Victoria, BC A beautiful city on Canada's Vancouver Island. Butchart Gardens was the highlight of our visit in September 2001.

Virginia City, NV A pleasant stop on our trip in September 2001.

Walls Drug Store, home of "free ice water". Our stop was in August 1998. August is the time for the Sturgis, SD, motorcycle rally and races. Sturgis is 80 miles from Wall, SD, but that is close enough to make vacant motel rooms hard to find. Some estimates of the number of motorcycles that are at Sturgis for the events are over 200.000.
